He led the Nationalist Party of China in the Chinese Civil War against the Communist Party of China, and in the Second World War against the Empire of Japan. The Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei is dedicated to remembering his legacy.

The ground level of the memorial hosts the museum describing his life and his contribution to the history of Taiwan.

The surrounding area is a giant plaza is the site of choice for any mass gatherings, and is known is “Liberty Square”.

To the north and south, are the National Theater and the National Concert Hall.
