Determining Volume Serial Number

This set of instructions will teach you how to determine the Volume Serial Number of your hard drive.  This number is useful if you want a unique identifier for your hard drive.  For example, program an application to work only with a certain Volume Serial Number.

  1. Open up the command prompt (Start > Run > cmd)
  2. Type “dir C: /p” and press enter.

Once that is done, the command prompt should output the number for you.
